Maria Cantrell

Maria Cantrell, of Woodbridge, VA, passed away peacefully at home on February 25th 2023. . Maria was born on November 1st 1931 to Vito and Addolorata Scioscioli in Brindisi, Italy. She grew up in Brindisi Italy with her father, mother and 3 sisters. Her father owned a vineyard and several horses which she loved. She learned her life long passions of sewing and cooking there. She taught sewing classes and was very active volunteering with her church Brindisi. In 1962, she met William (Bill) H. Cantrell, when he was stationed at San Vito AS in Italy and they were wed in 1963. After the wedding Maria and Bill returned to the US and settled in New Jersey and had one child. Maria worked as a seamstress and furrier for many years both at home and for dress outlets like Doris Jeane fashions in Denville NJ. Maria dedicated her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother and Grandmother (Nonna). Nonna excelled at helping and supporting her family and grandchildren in all their endeavors. For many years she was a fixture at the NVSC soccer fields where she loved seeing all the families and children and cheering them on, rain or shine. Whether going to sporting events and cheering on her grandchildren, or spending time volunteering at church she made it her mission to improve the lives of others. Nonna was a passionate cook and seamstress when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found in the kitchen making her famous sauce and lasagna or in front of her sewing machine. We will miss her greatly. Maria was predeceased by her parents and two older sisters Cosimina and Rossetta. She is survived by her husband, son and daughter in-law William V. and Michele Cantrell, grandchildren Nicholas, Stephen, and Thomas Cantrell, her sister Ida Binetti and many nieces and nephew. There will be a visitation Thursday evening from 6-8PM at the funeral home and a funeral mass on Friday March 3rd, 2023 at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, 12975 Purcell Rd, Manassas, VA 20112. Following the mass there will be a reception in the church hall from noon to 2PM.
