Marcus Edward Armentrout

Marcus “Edward” Armentrout also known as Ed, passed away on January 21, 2024, at the age of 88 in Bristow, VA. He was born on May 17, 1935, in Cloud, VA- now known as Woodville, VA. Ed was the beloved husband of Judy (who preceded him in death on December 22, 2014) and the father of Tony, Tamara, and Angie. He also had 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Ed was able to live independently as he wanted until the day that he died, and for that we are thankful. We are also grateful for the lessons that he taught us regarding our faith, being responsible and hardworking, and the importance of making wise decisions. He was a kind, generous, funny, creative, loving, and determined individual. He was known for his faith and his ability to bring a smile to those around him. He enjoyed many places of worship over the years, and from the church building to the dinner table, he was eager to share his faith until the day he went to Heaven. Many remember his prayers, citing this as a wonderful witness of his faith for those around him. With a passion for carpentry and woodworking, Ed built many homes with Judy. They were fortunate to live most of their lives in the beautiful Rappahannock County, with Ed growing up on what is now known as Five Forks Farm and Judy at the Inn at Mount Vernon Farm in Sperryville. They also enjoyed spending time at Lake Louisa, Emerald Isle, NC, and Swansboro, NC. Throughout their later years together, he spent time creating and building many pieces for Judy that she enhanced with decorative painting. He was a man of many talents. If he wanted to do something and did not know how, he took the time to figure it out or spent time with someone who could teach him. He was a firm believer in doing things yourself. Ed worked with VDOT as an inspector for much of his adult life. He was offered the opportunity to retire early, and he spent that extra time traveling and camping with Judy. They made it a priority to create lasting memories together, rarely without each other. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially shooting pool and playing cards. If you won a pool or a card game, you won on your own merit. He was a good teacher, but his children and grandchildren can attest that he did not believe in just letting you win. In later years he enjoyed doing puzzles, watching football, and joking with friends. A funeral service will not be held at this time in honoring the wishes of both Ed and Judy. At his request, he will be cremated, with his ashes interred beside his beloved wife at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Ed will be deeply missed by his children, family members and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
