Larry Dean Wood

Larry Dean Wood, age 73, of Manassas, VA met our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Prince William Medical Center. He was born on May 11, 1945 in Brevard, NC, the son of Eugene Clinton Wood and Mary Sharlotte Houston. He was raised in Highlands, NC, and enjoyed working at the grocery store and golf club during high school. After he graduated from Highlands High School, he moved to Manassas to work as a carpenter and eventually joined Charles Wood Builders working with his brother, which he continued until retirement. Larry married his high school sweetheart, Leann Gardner, in 1963. They settled in Manassas to raise their family, and had two daughters, Terri and Amy. Faith was a big part of Larry’s life with his family. He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, served as a deacon at Antioch Baptist Church, and eventually became an active, long time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Throughout life, Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. The family had wonderful meals together, and always enjoyed being together. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed playing Rook, doing puzzles, reading books, and watching golf. Larry also liked taking cruises with family and spending time in Ocean City, Maryland. He was known for generating humorous and highly quotable phrases. Larry’s grandchildren really loved visiting with him and Leann at their home in Manassas. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-five years: Leann Wood. Two children: Terri E. Farkas and husband Joseph Farkas, Harvest, AL, and Amy C. Zargarpur and her partner Paul Emkes, Haymarket, VA. Five grandchildren: Katelyn Boggs and husband Arturo Buzzalino, Fairfax, VA; Haley Boggs, Nashville, TN; Aron Zargarpur, Haymarket, VA; Adam Zargarpur, Haymarket, VA; and David Zargarpur, Haymarket, VA. Two great grandchildren: Luciana Buzzalino, and Roselyn Buzzalino. One brother: Eugene V. Wood of Highlands, NC; and one sister: Jeannie Taylor of Dillard, GA. And several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews Funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 19th, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 8006 Centerville Road, Manassas, VA. Pastor Tim Ma will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service, and there will be a fellowship meal together. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church.
