Kathleen White

Kathleen (Kathy) White of Gainesville, Virginia, departed this life on February 4, 2024. She was 83. Kathy was born on January 18, 1941, in Omaha, Nebraska to Francis and Bernice Cronin. She graduated from Holy Name High School in 1959, and on June 30, 1962, she married James (Jim) R. White. When Jim was hired by the Government Printing Office in 1968, they relocated to the DC area with their two young children. Kathy earned an associate degree while raising her three children and working full-time, and she had a long a fulfilling career in contract administration, eventually retiring as Director of Contracts at BAE Systems. She moved to Haymarket when she retired, where she continued to enjoy reading, singing in choir, and even learning to play golf! She loved to travel as well, visiting such distant places as Alaska, Croatia, Italy, Ireland, and Russia. Later, she remarried widower John Patrick (Pat) Rowland . They traveled every winter to the Dominican Republic. Kathy’s zest for life was unbound, even into her final days, still enjoying a glass of wine and some chocolate every day. Kathy loved her family passionately, from her siblings and their families to her husbands, children, and grandchildren. Kathy had a tender and compassionate heart, sympathizing with all those going through tough times in their lives. She was a devout Catholic and never wavered in her hope for eternal life promised to us by Jesus. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, her sisters Patricia Walker and Geraldine Layne, and her second husband Pat. Kathy is survived by her children Courtney, Kevin, daughter-in-law Christina, Neal, daughter-in-law Katrina, her brothers Joseph, John, and Paul Cronin, Grandchildren Emily, Stephen, Brendan, James, Cameron and Hannah, sisters-in-law Judith Wood and Christine Edmunds, and brother-in-law William White, and many beloved nephews and nieces. Visitation will be Monday, February 12th from 7 – 9 PM at Pierce Funeral Home in Manassas. A Funeral mass will be held at 10:30, Tuesday, February 13th at Holy Trinity Parish in Gainesville. A burial will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to one of Kathy’s favorite charities SOME (So Others May Eat) at some.org
