Kathleen Virginia Faulkingham

Kathleen (Kathy) Virginia Faulkingham, 94, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2021, in Gainesville, Virginia, surrounded by loving family members. Kathy was born January 17, 1927, in Bangor, Maine, the daughter of the late James Francis Whalen and Sylvia Conners Whalen. Kathy graduated from John Bapst High School, Bangor, in 1945, and married Richard (Dick) Faulkingham soon after he enlisted in the U.S. Army that same year. For the next twenty years, Kathy traveled with Dick to various Army bases, including the Philippines, France, Germany, Georgia, South Carolina, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, along with their three children. Kathy delighted in her role as a military wife and after Dick retired, they settled in the Washington, D.C. area where he worked at the U.S. Treasury Department for fifteen years. They then retired to Palm Coast, Florida, where they enjoyed spending time in Daytona Beach. Several years after Dick passed away, Kathy moved to Manassas, Virginia, to be closer to family. Kathy loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they adored her. Kathy was also devoted to her furry four-legged family members, including Snoopy, Shadow and Dusty. Kathy enjoyed getting together with family and friends; doing crossword puzzles and word searches; watching General Hospital faithfully; attending rosary group; and keeping a spotless home. She had been a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas. Kathy is survived by her three children, Richard James Faulkingham (Theresa), Reedville, VA, Cheryl Rae Pattie, Gainesville, VA, and Kathleen Susan Cary, Bangor, ME; grandchildren, Richard Faulkingham, Seattle, WA, Ryan Faulkingham, Petersburg, FL; Michele Daley (Scott), Christiansburg, VA, Leanne Pattie, Eugene, OR, Staci Richards (Scott), Manassas, VA, Robert W. Pattie, Jr. (Leah), Kingsport, TN; Mark Marino, Hampden, ME, Jeffrey Marino (Natalie), Tallahassee, FL, Scott Cary, Bangor, ME; greatgrandchildren: Jack and Luke Daley, Christiansburg, VA; Alexis, Sylvia and Grace Terramana, Eugene, OR; Seth and Samuel Richards, Manassas, VA; Giulia, Alyssa and Anthony Marino, Tallahassee, FL; Cameron and Eliza Cary, Bowerbank, ME; great-greatgrandchild Alden Davis-Daley, Christiansburg, VA. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Leah Rae Faulkingham, Tallahassee, FL; and her brother, Vincent Conners, Bangor, ME. Services will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
