Joyce Brown Clement

Joyce Brown Clement, born September 19, 1934, in Medford, MA, to Maclean and Josephine Brown, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2024, in Gainesville, VA. She lived a vibrant life full of love, laughter, and accomplishments. After her family moved to Minneapolis, Joyce attended Robbinsdale High School and went on to business school. She met Andy, her first husband, while he was in the Army, and together they raised three wonderful children in Falls Church, VA. In 1979, Joyce was lucky enough to find love again with Carlos “Gene” Clement. Together, they, along with two dear friends and their spouses, built a successful franchise in the DC area over the next four decades. Joyce had a fulfilling career in Business Administration, working with various large corporations before contributing to the family business. Joyce was also a talented singer who enjoyed being part of church choirs and sang with the Washington DC Mormon Choir until she could no longer perform. Dancing was another passion of hers, and she loved traveling—she was fortunate to visit all 50 states and many countries. Family vacations by the water were some of her happiest times. Known affectionately as “Grandma” to many, Joyce was generous and welcoming, making everyone feel at home and creating a beloved “Gathering Place” for family. Joyce is survived by her five children: Debbie Anderson, Michelle Messich (John), Andy Anderson (Sandra), and stepdaughters Kathy Baxter and Susan Burkett (Jim). She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Her siblings Con Brown, Maclean Brown (Kathy), Joanne Knabe, and Judy Hansen, along with numerous nieces and nephews, also remember her fondly. Joyce was blessed with many dear friends whose support and companionship enriched her life. Family and friends will gather for a Visitation on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024 from 7:00-9:00 PM at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas, VA 20110. A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at Pierce Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024 at 10:30 AM with inurnment at 12:00 Noon at Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Hwy., Manassas, VA 20109. Following the committal, all are welcome to join the family for lunch at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 14015 Glenkirk Dr, Gainesville, VA 20155. All who knew her are invited to join in remembering a truly remarkable woman who touched so many lives with her warmth and kindness.
