Joy Lee Peters

Joy Lee Peters, 75 years old, of Manassas, Virginia went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on June 6, 2016. She passed away surrounded by Henry Peters, her loving husband of forty-seven years and her beloved daughters: Janice Rayl, Mary Beth Sisk, and Laura Bucknam and son-in-law Michael Bucknam Joy was born July 19, 1940 in Steubenville, Ohio. Joy was a very young when she married Albert Rayl and had her three daughters. She later married her beloved husband Henry Peters on June 7, 1969 and he became Dad to her three daughters. Joy became a Christian at age thirteen at the Methodist church. She was Baptized at Manassas Baptist Church in August 1970 where she was a member until she joined the Lord in heaven. All three of her daughters followed her in baptism on October 25, 1970. Joy had a heart of a true servant and served not only at the church but also with the Girls Scouts of America. Other than her work for her family and her church Joy was most proud of her work with the Girls Scouts. She began serving for the Girl Scouts in 1998 and was a Girl Scout Leader for 18 years. She helped eighteen girls attain the Gold Award, Girl Scouting’s highest award. Joy worked for GC Murphy’s in Westgate Shopping Center and then went to the Grand Union Grocery in Manassas. Next Joy found her work home of twenty-eight years for the telephone company in Manassas, starting at Vetter’s Phone Company and retiring from Verizon. It was at the telephone company that she met her best friend Dana Carter. Dana has become like an Aunt to Joys daughters. Joy was preceded in death by Floyd Reed, her father when she was one-year-old. Also preceding her are her mother, Betty Trzaskoma and step-father John Trzaskoma and her brother Johnny Trzaskoma. Joy is survived by Henry Peters, her beloved husband. She is also survived by daughters Janice Rayl, Mary Beth Sisk, Laura Bucknam and son-in-law Michael Bucknam. Grand-children Jason Sisk, Stephanie Sisk, Luke Bucknam, Joy Bucknam Thompson and her husband Neil Thompson. Great-Grand Child Parker Sisk. Brother, Norman Trzaskoma and his wife Judy. Nephew Ben Trzaskoma, niece Rachel Trzaskoma Schatzberg and husband Cory and their daughter, Great Niece Isabella. Funeral Services will be held 4:00pm Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the Manassas Baptist Church, 8800 Sudley Road, Manassas, Virginia with Pastor David Donahue officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00pm until service time at the church. Graveside service will be at 10:00am Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Stonewall Memory Gardens In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts in honor of Joy be made to Manassas Baptist Church, 8730 Sudley Rd, Manassas, VA 20110.
