Pastor John Lewis Wilcoxon

John Lewis Wilcoxon peacefully joined his Lord on April 30th, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family in the comfort of his home. He is the son of the late Glen Wilcoxon and Ruth Robison. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife of 38 years, Jacalyn, brothers, Curtis Gillam, Tommy Gillam, Bobby Wilcoxon, sister, LaVonne Bryant, daughter, Nikki Lattimer and a granddaughter, Lolanda Jacalyn Wilcoxon. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Linda, children, Sherri Carmichael, Brigett (Bill) Ruggles, Todd (Lori) Wilcoxon, Melissa (Jeff) Brock, Jonathan (Megan)Wilcoxon, Brandon (April) Lattimer and Nathan (Danielle) Lattimer. He leaves behind grandchildren, Natalie and Bronson Carmichael, Hilary (Jonathan) Clay, Nick Ruggles, Amanda (Tyler) Herndon, Lauren and Billy Ruggles, Amber (Ben) Siron, Derrick, Luke, Kyle and Meghan Wilcoxon, Cole and Kristen Brock, Brayden, Hudson and Jacalyn Wilcoxon, Trevor (Kelsie) Lattimer, Tyler (Bekah) Lattimer, Bekkah (Walker) Holmes, Kirsten and Jessica Lattimer, Madison, Zane and Emmalee Lattimer and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Orndorff and brothers, Darrell (Irish) Wilcoxon, Steve (Gloria) Wilcoxon, and Victor (Karen) Wilcoxon, and many nieces and nephews. John was born in Urbana, Ohio on April 13, 1949. He attended and graduated from Bellefontaine High School, Bellefontaine, OH in 1968. He joined the Army and deployed to Germany after marrying his high school sweetheart, Jacalyn Ann Barton in 1969. After serving two years in the Army and being honorably discharged at the rank of Specialist 4, he worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and served in the Reserves. He was honored to serve his country and was very patriotic. John gave his heart to God in 1971 in Ohio and became the new creature spoken of in II Corinthians 5:17 with new desires and a burden to know the Truth and win souls. He received the divine call to the ministry in 1980 to the Manassas, VA Church of God where he pastored the congregation he loved until retirement in 2021. He preached, lived and stood for all of the Truth all of his days. During that time his burden for souls took him on many mission trips to Kenya, Malawi, Guatemala, Cayman Islands, Peru, The Philippines, and Mexico. John enjoyed playing basketball, bass fishing, fly fishing, woodworking, farming, hiking and traveling. He and wife Linda enjoyed the great outdoors and serving God together. He loved the time spent with his big loving family- from planting gardens, fishing trips with the boys, picnics, church events, to just sitting around telling so many stories as only a Grandpa can do! He was truly the light of life in our family. The bible says in James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. John was a thankful man for everything in his life, realizing that it was from the goodness of God. Words cannot adequately portray the kind, caring. gentle, long-suffering, giving and loving man that we all knew and loved. HE IS MISSED BEYOND MEASURE!
