JOHN ANTHONY McGARVEY, a retired mortgage banker died of pneumonia Thursday, June 30, 2005 at Prince William Hospital. He was born and educated in New York. He was stationed in Washington D.C. with Navy Intelligence During the Korean War. He began his banking career with Hanover Manufacturers Trust in New York City. In the Mystic, Connecticut area his mortgage banking career lead him to Prince William County in the mid-sixties as Vice-President with the Bank of Prince William in Woodbridge and Occoquan. He continued with Bank of Virginia and Signet. At the time of his retirement it was First Union at Tyson's Corner. He was a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association for 30 years and the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks for many years. He was the charter president of the Woodbridge Civitan Club whose membership sponsored spring clean and support for Camp Tampiwingo, a summer camp for exceptional children in Prince William County. He served on the Prince William Assessment Equilization Board in the 70's. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Manassas. Following his retirement, he served for 12 years on the Board of Trustees and Hospital Foundation Board of Potomac Hospital. During the last eight years he was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Vocational Education Foundation, Inc. for Prince William County Schools. He has been a member of the George Mason Patriot Club since the eighties. In addition to Catholic charities he has supported St. Labre Indian education. He enjoyed fishing and working with H-gauge model trains and villages. Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Lorena McGarvey, a former Prince William County teacher; one son, James William McGarvey; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Aguero McGarvey and two granddaughters, Colleen and Caitlin of Suwanee, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at Price Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas. A memorial mass will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Road, Manassas with Rev. Robert C. Cilinski officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to American Diabetes Association, Memorial & Honor Program, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720 in memory of John A.
