John Michael Kittelberger Sr.

John Michael Kittelberger Sr. was born March 14, 1943, in Washington, DC and passed away at his home in Haymarket, VA on August 11, 2026. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Margaret Kittelberger and his sister Barbara Kittelberger. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 62 years, Judy Kittelberger (Watford). He also leaves behind his beloved children, Jay Kittelberger (Mandy) and Jamey Kittelberger (Micky), and his cherished grandchildren, Wesley, Jake, Kyle, Kaleigh, and Mackenna, and his sister Brenda Smith of Myrtle Beach, SC. His drive to care for and support his family is embodied in the successful plumbing business he created in the late 1970’s. What started as a venture to make ends meet became a thriving business through his diligence, expertise, and amiable nature. While growing his business, he served on several business boards, including the Fairfax County Plumbing Board, and spent several years as president of West Springfield Little League. John put his family first, always. He rarely had to ask what others needed; he was someone who carefully listened to those he loved and thoughtfully responded to their unspoken needs. Even beyond his close family and friends, he was always first to offer help to a friend or neighbor, or a friend of a friend he had just met. Once John knew your name, he would treat you just the same as someone he had known for ten years. John loved traveling to Palm Beach Gardens, FL in the winter to escape the cold, but was always anxious to return home to his basement “workshop” to begin a new woodworking project. John maintained loyal communications with many friends throughout the years. He loved playing golf, and even when he could not play, he continued to ride with Judy or his buddies in the cart to enjoy their company. A man curious with hobbies, John took up woodworking and quite impressively conquered the craft not long after he started. His works include custom functional items such as cutting and charcuterie boards, toolboxes, and his favorite oven squirrels. And while shopping sounds like a superficial hobby, John thought of others often and loved nothing more than to bring anyone a surprise gift simply because he knew they needed it or would enjoy it. John’s life will be celebrated with a service at Park Valley Church, 4500 Waverly Farm Drive in Haymarket, VA on August 21, 2026, at 11:00 am with a reception following the service at Regency at Dominion Valley at 15351 Championship Drive in Haymarket, VA. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the American Heart Association.
