John Richard Kipp III

"With love's light wings did I o'erperch these walls, For stony limits cannot hold love out, And what love can do, that dares love attempt.” Romeo and Juliet On May 8th, 2025, John Richard Kipp III, at age 71 left this earthly life to be with his beloved wife, Joanne. John married Joanne, his high school sweetheart, on Dec 9, 1973. They were married for 28 years until her death. Together they raised three wonderful children, John Artemus Kipp, Zebulun Levi Kipp, and Chloe Christine Autumn Knight and many stray cats and dogs. John was a devoted and loving Dad, He never missed any of the boy’s high school football or soccer games. You could always easily find him watching the games just from the aroma of his tobacco pipe drifting through the air. John loved his family! He loved their little home in Brandy Station, preferring to just stay at home. John passed away in the family home surrounded by all the good memories of their life together. John grew up on Lomond Drive in Manassas, Virginia. Graduated from Stonewall Jackson, Sr. High School and shortly after he was married, he joined the US Army. Soon John and Joanne were packing up a U-Haul truck and heading off to Kansas for basic training, then to Germany for the duration of his tour. After being honorably discharged from the Army, having a wife and a young son now, John got on at Vulcan working with his lifelong best friend from High School Bruce Smith. Then after a few years, John got on with the Chesapeake and Potomac Phone Company and worked there for 32 years until his retirement with Verizon. John was a “Dodge” man! He had a Dodge Barracuda, Dodge Dart, the trilogy of Dodge Trucks. When he wasn’t running the kids to soccer practices, he spent his free time in his garage happily working on the family vehicles. In a promise to his wife upon her death, John promised that he would watch over and take care of Joanne’s parents until their death. John never wavered from this promise. He took exceptional care of Johnny and Christine even at his own physical and emotional expense. He’d made a promise to Joanne. He kept that promise! To know John was to know that he could never say no to a family member or friend in need. Always quick with a witty comeback and a dashing smile, John was a big-hearted man. All who knew him and loved him, will greatly miss him! He is survived by his three children, Artemus (Amy), Levi (Jenny), and Chloe. Grandchildren, Zoe Kipp, Aidan Kipp, Owen Kipp, Declan Kipp, Garrick Kipp, Joanne Knight, Isabella Knight, Dracon Knight as well as his sister Margaret.
