Joan Marie Hadro

Joan Marie (Wolfe) Hadro, age 80, beloved Daughter of Francis C. Hadro and Ruth Lennon (Hadro) Bunker who predeceased her, passed away peacefully surrounded by members of her family; her daughter, Stefany Wolfe, sister, Maggie (Hadro) Venzke, brother Michael Hadro ,his wife, Ann Elizabeth Hadro, and niece, Michelle (Hadro) Hilleary on Tuesday evening, February 25th 2025 at Commonwealth Senior Living in Manassas, VA. Joan is also survived by her brother-in-law Keith Venzke and her many other nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. Joan spent the last decade as a resident of Plano, Texas and was a former resident of Arlington, VA and Brookeville, MD. Born in Washington, D.C., Joan attended Notre Dame Academy in Washington, then graduated from Northwestern H.S. in Hyattsville, MD. She attended Strayer Business College where she earned an AA degree in Legal Secretarial Studies in 1964. She started her career with the law firm of Hudson & Creyke. Joan’s most recent employment was at the United States Enrichment Corporation, (USEC), where she retired as an admired Executive Assistant to the Senior Management Team. Growing up as the eldest of three children, Joan shouldered the burdens of responsibility at an early age, looking after her much younger sister, Maggie, and keeping tabs on her younger brother Michael. She accepted the challenges of homemaking early on and from this, Joan became known for her amazing gourmet cooking talents. No matter the chore, Joan always found time to socialize with her best friends from childhood, Marilyn Graziano, Barbara “Bobbie” (Gownley) Constantino, and Jean “Jeannie” Winters, all of whom joined Joan in celebrating their 80th birthdays this past year. Joan was a proud stay-at-home mother of her only child, Stefany, until she returned to work once her daughter was grown. Joan enjoyed family trips to the beach, cooking, reading, fashion, sewing, and learning anything new. Joan was immensely proud of her working career and often kept in touch with one of her favorite bosses, John. Joan was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Known for her warm smile and infectious laugh, Aunt Joan, affectionately known as “AJ”, was a special favorite of her 11 nieces and nephews, and 24 grand nieces and nephews. She rejoiced amidst their continuous shower of letters, drawings, and pictures. She is deeply loved and sorely missed by each of them. Joan’s journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and lasting friendships. There were few strangers to Joan, only friends she had yet to meet. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by her. We ask that you remember Joan not for the way her life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact she had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Reading and gaining knowledge was a big part of Joan‘s life. “Knowledge is power” she would often inference. Literacy was something important her.
