Jeffrey Grier Burke

JEFF BURKE September 26, 1983 – January 7, 2020 Jeffrey Grier Burke, 36, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Greenville, NC on January 7, 2020. He is survived by his parents, Kathy Burke of Chesterfield, VA; and John Burke (Marcia), of Gainesville, VA; two sisters, Kelly Craig and Emily Milby (Stephen); two step-brothers, Michael LaMay (Eri) and Samuel LaMay; three nieces; two great-nephews; and a large group of extended family and friends, who were like family to him. Jeff is preceded in death by his step-sister, Nicole Cole. Jeff grew up in Manassas, VA and graduated from Osbourn High School. He moved to Greenville, NC in 2005 and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Master’s degree in Accounting from East Carolina University. He had previously attended NOVA, George Mason University, and Pitt County Community College. He loved all sports and had a great knowledge of and passion for sports. He was happiest watching and discussing college and professional athletics. He was a student of the games and had great knowledge of athletics including statistics such as batting averages, yards-per-carry, won-lost records, coaches, and any other facet of sports. He was a true Southern gentleman, respecting all and unselfishly helping everyone he could. Jeff worked in the restaurant business his entire career. Places of employment in Greenville, NC recently included: Buffalo Wild Wings, and aTavola Market Cafe and previously Carolina Ale House, Outback Steak House, The Rickhouse, and O'Charley's. His North Carolina friends and work colleagues were a tremendous source of strength and encouragement for Jeff; he loved to work with and serve his NC family and customers with great enthusiasm and professionalism. The love of his family and NC friends (non-biological family) was a wonderful gift that Jeff fully appreciated and relished. The family will receive friends from 10 – 11 a.m. on Monday, January 20, 2020 at Haymarket Baptist Church, 14800 Washington Street, Haymarket, VA. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., with Dr. Mark Olson and Rev. Ruth Anne Sawyer officiating. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Bright View Cemetery, 8265 Lunsford Road, Warrenton, VA 20187. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association in his memory.
