Jeanne Marie Baker

JEANNE MARIE BAKER, age 82, passed away on January 7, 2021 in Gainesville, VA. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Jeanne Marie Baker. Jeanne was born on June 4, 1938 in Alexandria, VA to Helen Marie (Jones) Martin and John Adam Martin. She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Frank (Francis Xavier Baker). Survivors include her four children: Jack Baker and wife Eileen, of Southport, NC, Karen Behrens and husband Chris, of Midlothian, VA, Eileen Balberde and husband Steve, of Clifton, VA and Chris Baker of Winchester, VA; grandchildren: Lauren Behrens Field and husband Chris, Brendan Behrens and wife Rachel, Will Balberde and wife Hannah, Elise Baker, Andy Balberde, Bridget Behrens, Campbell Baker and Jack Baker; great-grandchildren: Emma, Owen, Sadie, Saylor, Sam and Olivia. Our family will remember Mom as a loving woman, who put her family first and gave us unconditional love, great advice, and always with a funny quip or witty comment. Our Mom was feisty, fiercely independent, incredibly smart, and well-read. She believed in always putting her “best foot forward” and the importance of perseverance. She was proud to be a native Virginian and raised her family with a knowledge and appreciation for history. Mom was a woman of many talents – she played the piano, could create and sew a beautiful dress or professional draperies for her home, she knitted heirloom blankets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, refinished antiques and had an elegant flair for decorating. Mom especially loved to be in the middle of the fun, whether it was enjoying family beach trips, afternoon tea, shopping expeditions, road trips and travel, lunch with neighborhood friends or just sitting around the kitchen table hearing family stories and exploits (the funnier and more outrageous, the better!). Most of all, Mom cherished her time with our family and she will be deeply and greatly missed by all of us. Mom showed us all, grace and courage in the face of pain and illness and kept her funny and wry sense of humor to the end. If there is one consolation in the passing of our beloved Mom, MomMom and GiGi, it is that she is reunited with our Dad and her beloved husband of 57 years, Frank Baker, in heaven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at 10:30am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8213 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville, Va. Internment will follow the mass at 12:30pm at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA of Prince William County or the House of Mercy in Manassas, VA in loving memory of Jeanne M. Baker.
