Jane Metcalf Seeberg

Jane Metcalf Seeberg, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 8, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Jane was born on August 25, 1933, on the family farm in Rush Township, Jo Daviess County, Illinois the daughter of Glen and Anna (Kupersmith) Metcalf. Her family moved from the farm to Warren where she attended grade school followed by a move to Rockford, Illinois where she graduated from West High School in 1951. She was a nurse for several years following graduation from the Passavant School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois in 1954. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Stanton Seeberg, on March 26, 1954 in Rockford, Illinois. Together they had four daughters, RaeAnn, Sarah, and twins Mary Elizabeth and Lisa Kay (d. 1963). As a military wife she moved her family frequently and lived in Iowa, Georgia, Germany, Indiana, Illinois, and New York before the moving to Virginia where she and her husband retired. Jane showed Scottish Terriers for a number of years, went back to college earning a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from George Mason University, and enjoyed traveling and horseback riding. A devoted animal lover she adopted a number of dogs and cats over the years. Always community-minded she became an auxiliary member of the Prince William County Police Department in her early 70s. Her family will always remember her kind heart, deep concern for the welfare of others, love of reading, and quick wit and wry sense of humor. Survivors include her daughters; RaeAnn, Sarah, and Mary (John); grandchildren; Jason, Rachel, and Jessica; sister-in-law Elizabeth Seeberg Ozark; nephews James Crosby, David (Karen) Graning and Philip Somerville; nieces Kris and Kathy Somerville; great nephews Thomas F. Graning, Steven Graning, and Robert J. Crosby; great nieces Carrie (David), Lindsay, Stephanie, and Glendelle Crosby and Kristin (Patrick) Murphy; and fourteen grand nieces and grand nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Glen and Anna and in-laws George and Betty Seeberg, her husband Richard and infant daughter Lisa Kay, her beloved sisters and their husbands Glendoris and Benny Crosby and Cleo and Frank Graning, three nephews, Thomas Graning, Robert Crosby, and William Crosby, and great nephew Gary M. Crosby. The family will be receiving friends at home on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., to celebrate a life well lived. Funeral and burial are pending scheduling with Arlington National Cemetery.
