James Verts

JAMES "MILTON" VERTS, of Manassas, Virginia went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Prince William Hospital, Manassas. Milton was born June 16, 1928 in The Plains, Virginia son of the late Oscar and Constance Verts. He joined the Navy at age 17 and traveled many places during his eight years. On January 1, 1950 he married Bess ( Brown) from The Plains. Milton and Bess would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on January 1, 2013. They moved to Manassas, Virginia in 1958 and opened the Manassas Esso with his brother-in-law, Charles Brown, until 1968 when they moved to Charlottesville, Virginia and became a Snap On Tools Salesman for 20 years. He attended Grace Baptist Church in Charlottesville, Virginia where he was ordained as a Deacon. They retired and moved back to Manassas, Virginia in 1988. They attended and were very active and faithful in Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served as Deacon also. He loved the Lord and never met a stranger. He was an avid NASCAR fan and was loved by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry Verts and two brothers, Joe and Billy Verts. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Bess Verts; one daughter Sandi Verts Bridgett and husband Swanee of Warrenton, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Dianne Verts; one granddaughter, Melanie (Andrew) Breeden; one grandson, Jimmy Verts; two great-granddaughters, Maggie and Amelia Breeden who were the love of his life; five "adopted" grandchildren, Swanee Bridgett, Jr., Kimberlee Price, Maia, Sean and Jordyn; two brothers, Johnny Verts and Charles Verts; two sisters, Peggy Fletcher and Barbara Connelly; brothers and sisters-in law and many nieces, nephews and special friends. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 P.M. Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas. Funeral services will be held 12:30 P.M. Friday, December 21, 2012 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 8275 Barrett Drive, Manassas, Virginia with Pastor Eugene Zorbas officiating. Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Tabernacle Baptist Church, P.O.
