James "Mike" Michael Windle

James (Mike) Michael Windle was born July 7, 1963, in Woodstock, VA, to Eleanor Louise Simmons and James Frederick Windle, joined his sister Karen Hart to be with the Lord when he lost his battle with cancer and kicked his last bucket May 23, 2023. Mike was proud of the fact that at a young age he learned the HVAC trade from his uncles and became a Master Technician with the Prince William County Public Schools and was able to own and operate his small business where each of his clients quickly became his friends. He met his wife Susan Windle in 1983 and they were married August 2nd, 1985, surrounded by their friends and family. A father to three daughters, Solveig Neilson, Kristin Beery, and Joanna Martinez. Mike wore many hats: Son, brother, husband, father, father in-law, uncle, coach, grandfather, cat dad and friend. He is survived by his mother Eleanor Simmons, father Fred Windle, wife Susan Windle, his daughters Solveig Neilson (Randy Neilson), Kristin Beery (David Beery), and Joanna Martinez (Jeffrey Martinez), and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, and one cat named Wally. He was known as “Granpy” to his nine grandchildren, Nadia Neilson, Cailyn Neilson, Aiden Lax, Hannah Lax, Xander Beery, Patton Beery, Jowell Martinez, Jaye Martinez, and Sophia Martinez. All nine of his grandchildren will miss him dearly with his sneaking them cookies and surprise Slurpees, cookie decorating and attending milestone events. Disliked by many umpires and the many kicked buckets, Mike was loved by the players. He began coaching in the 1990’s and continued his softball coaching career until it overflowed into t-ball. Mike dedicated 27 years to coaching, starting with his daughters’ softball teams, and continuing to 2018 with his grandson, Jaye Martinez’s T-ball team. Some of his greatest memories were on the fields. To all his players out there today, remember "Don’t lose to some Mickey Mouse team because second place is the first loser." Mike was a positive influence for many young men as well, not only introducing them to the HVAC trade but also guided them in many other life lessons, becoming a father figure. To those men, remember “Geez-oh-flip man! Suck it up. Who hired this guy?” During this last year, Mike expanded his personal connection with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. He enjoyed his new passion for reading the Bible and listening to bluegrass gospel. He always said, either way it’s a “Win-Win”. He either gets to stay with his family, or he goes home to be with Jesus. John 14:3-4 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Family and friends will gather for a Visitation on Saturday, May 27, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas, VA 20110. A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Sunset View Memorial Gardens, 2677 Fravel Rd., Woodstock, VA 22664. A Reception will follow at the Woodstock Moose Lodge, 152 Moose Rd., Woodstock, VA 22664. The family requests that in liey of flowers, donations be made in Mikes name to Hatcher's Memorial Baptist Church, 12225 Barbee Rd., Bristow, VA 20136.
