James Robert Delamater

James Robert Delamater, age 74, of Manassas Park, VA passed away Friday, March 30, 2018 at the Novant Health Prince William Medical Center. He was born on October 10, 1943 in Peekskill, NY the son of the late George H. and Amy Marie (Miller) Delamater. He retired as a Sargent First Class of the U.S. Army. After his military career, he worked as the Director of Corporate Travel for M.C. Dean, Inc. James truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; traveling with his wife, spending time with family and loving not only his wife of 41 years to the fullest but he also gave everything to his children and grandchildren. He was a proud veteran and always held the Army close to his heart. After his military career he continued to serve his country by caring for and supporting his brothers in arms. He participated in several church missions in different areas of the country helping families rebuild their homes and lives. He was an amazing craftsman and could make anything out of nothing. He served as a tutor, mentor and coach to countless youth helping them build a foundation for their futures. He was an avid college football fan which left the house divided as he loved the Alabama Crimson Tide and his wife loved the Auburn Tigers – no matter what, it was always ROLL TIDE! Survivors include his loving wife, Catherine M. (Beatty) Delamater; two children, Adam Delamater and wife Lisa of Manassas Park, VA, Jaime Shillingburg and husband Scott of Rippon, West Virginia; four grandchildren, Cooper Shillingburg, Christopher Delamater, Colten Shillingburg, Charlotte Delamater; two brothers, Patrick Delamater and wife Adrian of Houston, TX, George Delamater, Jr and wife Marylou of Peekskill, NY; one sister, Pam Hard and husband Robert of Garrison, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00PM Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA where a Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in James’ memory to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund at www.vvmf.org. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
