James S. Brady Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James (Jim) S. Brady, Jr. He passed away peacefully at his home March 4, 2026, with his wife and two of his children by his side. Jim was born December 15, 1948 in Washington, DC to Angelika and James S. Brady, Sr. Jim was raised in Washington, DC, and Vienna, Virginia, and lived his adult life in Herndon and Haymarket, VA. He worked primarily in the Information Technology and Telecommunications fields in support of the Federal Government. Jim was a quiet, reserved man, who never drew attention to himself, but was always ready to help anyone with anything. Above all else, he was a devoted husband and father. His family was his first priority. He supported his children with all their schooling and sporting activities including Boy Scouts, baseball, band, soccer and track. Family and friends all describe him as calm, generous, kind, reliable and helpful. Above all this, his most endearing quality was his dry, sarcastic sense of humor. Anyone who talked with Jim, friends and strangers alike, would soon be chuckling at some comment he made. Everyone enjoyed being with him, sought his sound advice, and will remember him with a smile. Jim was a life-long Washington Redskins fan, and a Baltimore Orioles fan. He loved trivia and seemed to know all the answers on Jeopardy. In retirement, he enjoyed playing pickleball and frustrated everyone with his height and long arms; it was very tough to get a ball past him. He was a lover of the outdoors and spent much of his time outside enjoying the fresh air - whether walking along the shoreline with the sound of waves in the background or standing quietly in the mountains, taking in the beauty of the world around him. He delighted in the sight of any and all wildlife he encountered. He also loved the adventure of travel, especially road trips, finding joy in the long drives, new places, and the memories made along the way. Jim is survived by his wife Jane; he was not only her husband, but her best friend for 45 years. He is further survived by a daughter, Sharon Utley Strawn, a son, Steven James Brady, a daughter Laura Marinone, and a son-in-law Ryan Marinone. He has siblings, brother Robert Brady and sister-in-law Alice Brady, brother Christopher Lucas and sister-in-law Leila (Penny) Lucas, and sister Charlotte Lucas. He is preceded in death by his mother, Angelika Lucas, his father James S. Brady, Sr. and step-father Matthew C. Lucas. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St, Manassas, VA 20110 on March 20th, 2026, with friends’ visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and service to follow at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the hospice that helped care for him, Capital Caring Health
