Glenn Corbin Kessler

Glenn Corbin Kessler, 83, transitioned peacefully at Westminster Lakeridge on June 25, 2026. The son of Roy L. Kessler and Clara Mae Graybill Kessler he was predeceased by his brother Donald L Kessler. Born in Roanoke, VA but reared in Northern VA, Glenn graduated from Jeb Stuart High School in 1962. He went on to receive a BS in Science from VA Tech in 1966 then Master’s and in Terriern 1986, Doctorate in Computer Literacy from the University of VA. His career in education began in 1966 as a science teacher at Jennie Dean Middle School in Prince William County where he was elected Teacher of the Year in his second year of teaching. His third year of service saw him promoted to Supervisor of Computing and Educational Technology. He and good friend Ben Swecker increased learning opportunities for students with the beginning of the Electronic Field Trip and were pioneers in Distance Learning. In 1986 Glenn was employed by Fairfax County Schools as Director of Media Services. As a consultant in Distance Learning Glenn traveled to many parts of the world working with the US Department of State, China, Russia, the Goethe Institute and German Cultural Center. He was appointed by VA Governor L Douglas Wilder to the Va Council on Information Management. Glenn served as president of the United States Distance Learning Association. Va Gov George Allen declared that Feb 5, 1997 would be Glenn Kessler Day in the Commonwealth. Honors included ICIA educator of the year, membership in Phi Delta Kappa, Honorary Ed Fraternity and 2010 Business Industry Advisory Council Award recipient. Glenn was an avid gardener, specializing in hot peppers and tomatoes from which he made salsa appreciated and requested by all who tasted it. Winter and especially Christmas was the time his Chocolate candies and candy houses became favorites of their recipients. Dark chocolate was a favorite. He was a devoted pet lover from Beuregard, his first dog to Freddy the cat who helped with cracking crabs to Chryss Anne the Norwich Terrier and finally Mocha who picked him. He knew just where to scratch and rub and they loved him for it.. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Jean Laing Kessler, his sister Sherlie K. Embrey, one son, David Glenn Kessler, two grandchildren Cameron and Jes, five nieces and one nephew. Visitation and Viewing are scheduled at Grace United Methodist Church, 9750 Wellington Road, Manassas, VA for July 6, 2026 at 10:00 AM, with Funeral Service at 11:00 AM followed by lunch at the Church.
