Georgetta Dickerson

Georgetta Dickerson, 77, passed away on September 17, 2023 at her beloved home of 45 years in Haymarket, VA. She was surrounded by her sons and their families. Georgetta’s passing came 15 months following the loss of her loving husband of 54 years, Franklin R Dickerson. Georgetta was born in Alexandria, VA on September 23, 1945 to Harvey and Margaret Magner. She grew up with four siblings in a family that valued hard work and loyalty. Georgetta dedicated much of her formative years to helping her mother run the household and caring for her elderly Grandmother. Upon graduation from Robert E. Lee High School, she attended Beautician School and worked as a hairdresser at Fort Belvoir. One of her regular clients, a retired military officer, offered her a job at GTE Spacenet in McLean,Va. She jumped at the opportunity and worked as an executive assistant to the CEO for 15 years where she enjoyed amazing professional experiences and opportunities to travel within the US and abroad. Georgetta was incredibly devoted to her family and enjoyed helping others. While working full time and raising her family, she lovingly cared for and nursed her mother until her passing at 96 years of age. She created an inviting, warm home where everyone felt welcomed. Georgetta loved decorating, painting rooms, sewing homemade window treatments, and gardening for hours on end. Her perfectly curated yard was beautifully landscaped and always blooming with an abundance of colorful flowers each spring. Georgetta is survived by her two sons: Daren (Lisa) Dickerson of Thousand Oaks, CA and Marty (Marina) Dickerson of Harpers Ferry, WV. She cherished her seven grandchildren and loved showering them with thoughtful, heartfelt gifts, notes and yummy sweets. As young children, they loved running around the yard in Haymarket and playing with the dogs. As they grew older, she never missed an opportunity to celebrate their milestones and achievements. Georgetta will always be remembered as a loving and caring person who gave everything to her family and those in need. Her integrity, work ethic and loving dedication to others will always be remembered and continue to inspire and guide us. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 18, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church, 16513 Waterfall Road, Haymarket, VA 20169.
