George Robert Maitland

George Robert (Bob) Maitland, 86 of Delta, PA, formerly of Manassas Park, VA, passed away Saturday January 14, 2023, at his residence. He was born November 27, 1936, in Cleveland OH the son of the late George J. Maitland Sr and Lois Drucker Burton. He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Joyce (Massey) Maitland and two children, Lisa Maureen Maitland Moore, and Robert Christopher Maitland and three brothers William J. Maitland, Patrick Maitland, and Thomas Maitland. Survivors include one daughter Cathy Marie Banks and husband David, one brother Gary John Maitland, one sister Sally Maitland Rosinsky, three half-brothers George Maitland Jr., Michael Maitland and wife Judy, Kevin Maitland and wife Kathy Callahan, five grandchildren Eric Michael Cunningham wife Kanthima, Kyle David Banks and Kelsey Gray, James Berkley Moore II and wife Kristen, Kerry Anne Moore and Neal Smiley, Michelle Elizabeth Moore and William Campell, and nine great children Summer Marie-Pen Cunningham, James Berkley (TJ) Moore III, Soren Alexander Moore, Briar Rose Moore, Brady Lee Settles, Aubrey Michelle Settles, Charlie Mae Smiley, Deacon James Smiley, Ariel Blake Moore Bob was very proud of his life accomplishments and his family. He served in the Army, and he then went on to serve his community as a council member, mayor, and school board member. Him and his wife Peggy also took in foster babies for Catholic Charities and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid bowler and loved sharing his knowledge of bowling with the younger generations by giving lessons at the local bowling alley. He retired form Fairfax County 1996 as a Civil Engineer. He then went on to work at Prince William County as a plan reviewer and then at Home Depot. The viewing will be from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday January 25, 2023, at Pierce Funeral Homes, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am Thursday January 26, 2023, at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Road, Manassas, VA. Intermit will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway, Manassas, VA. A gathering to celebrate his life will follow at 1:30 pm at Sinistral Brewing Company, 9419 Main Street, Manassas, VA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 8180 Greensboro Drive, Suite 400, McLean, VA, 22102.
