Mr. Gene Roy Abel

Gene Roy Abel, age 72, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026. Born on March 24, 1954, Gene was a man who found joy in spending time with family and friends and being outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing, finding peace and happiness in nature and in the company of those he loved. In the 1980s, Gene began a long and dedicated career with Coca-Cola as a delivery truck driver. For more than 20 years, he took pride in his work, building lasting friendships and earning the respect of those who knew him through his strong work ethic, reliability, and dedication. Gene was an athlete who enjoyed playing baseball during his high school years, a passion that helped spark a lifelong love of sports and competition. He enjoyed watching Little League games on television and cheering on young athletes. His competitive spirit extended beyond sports, as he spent many years playing horseshoes and competing in local turkey shoots with friends and family. A devoted sports fan throughout his life, Gene faithfully supported the Washington Redskins and NASCAR. He proudly cheered for his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, and never missed a race. Whether watching football, baseball, or NASCAR, Genes enthusiasm for sports was evident to everyone who knew him. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Randolph and Marietta Abel, and his siblings, Barbara, Ruby, Michael, and Paul. He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory, including his four children: Gene Gadis, Regina Tronti, Christina Houtz (husband Charlie), and Jason Abel. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to six beloved grandchildren: Zachary Marshall, Alexis Abel, Callie Houtz, Gavin Tronti, Bryce Tronti, and Leyton Guyette. He is also survived by his brothers, Randy Abel and John Abel, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly. Gene will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his dedication to family, his loyal friendships, and his passion for sports. His kindness, sense of humor, and the memories he created with those he loved will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. The family is grateful for the love, support, and prayers received during this difficult time and appreciates all who join them in honoring Gene’s memory.
