Edward John (Ted) Passey, Jr.

Our loving husband, father, brother, son, uncle, and friend, Edward John Passey, Jr. (Ted) 58, returned home to his Heavenly Father on January 3, 2024, after a four-year battle of cancer, first being MM (Multiple Myeloma) and most recent MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome), and AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). He did everything he could to prolong his life or be cured, first having an Autologous Stem Cell Transplant for MM in 2020 and an Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant for AML in September of 2023. His family was very hopeful that he would be cured, however, God had other plans for him. We are most grateful for the time we were able to have with him during this difficult time in his life and blessed to be able to spend a week at Disney World together in the Spring of 2022. Born April 17, 1965, in Provo Utah, Ted was the oldest of six sons and one daughter of Edward John (EJ) and Pamela Passey. Ted grew up in Casper Wyoming where he attended Manor Heights Elementary, East Jr. High, and Kelly Walsh High School where he graduated in 1983. He participated in little league baseball, midget football, and then high school football where during his Sophomore and Junior years they won the state championship. He also participated in church basketball where his team won the Stake Championship. After high school he departed Casper to attend Ricks College now Brigham Young University-Idaho. Ted soon volunteered to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was assigned to the Brazil, Porto Alegre Mission. He learned to speak and read Portuguese. He cherished the experiences he had while serving and sharing the Gospel message with others. He later attended Salt Lake Community College and then transferred to the University of Utah where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Sports Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. After graduation from college, Ted worked various jobs, and in 1995, he enlisted in the Utah National Guard. After attending Basic training, he received orders and participated in a two-week exercise at Fort Rucker Alabama. He had such a good experience with the Army National Guard, that he decided to transition to the United States Army. He served approximately two years with A Company, 312 Military Intelligence Battalion at Fort Hood Texas. He was then assigned to serve in England at RAF Molesworth. After he completed his assignment, he returned to Salt Lake City, and found employment with the Utah Special Bureau of Investigations and worked as a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Analyst and worked with the DEA. He also supported the 2002 Utah Winter Olympics working in their Olympic Intelligence Center. Ted was called back to active duty as a reservist after the 911 terrorist attacks. He was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa Florida supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Once he completed his military orders, he worked as a government contractor supporting US CENTCOM in Tampa Florida as an Analyst for Booz Allen Hamilton. After a year he transitioned to Northrup Grumman and ultimately was hired for a consultant/Instructor position in Bellevue Nebraska, supporting the Targeting community. Due to loss of a contract, Ted transitioned to another contracting company in September of 2016, and supported ACC at Joint Base Langley Eustis. In September of 2018, he was hired to work for the Department of Defense in the Joint Targeting Directorate, Automaton Division at the Pentagon. Ted married his sweetheart, Allyson Forsey on March 2, 2002, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They spent 86 days together for their first year of marriage due to being called to active duty after 911. Ted and Allyson built a wonderful life together and enjoyed exploring the different places they lived. They soon welcomed a son, Jonathon in 2005 and a daughter, Alyvia in 2007. Ted’s greatest joy was his children. He loved spending time with them, playing games, building Legos, camping, hiking, watching movies and sports, and going on vacations together. He was adventurous and had a love for photography, always looking for the story or scene he could capture through the lens of his camera. Some of his other interests included, weightlifting, biking, hiking, repelling, crossword & jigsaw puzzles, and sports. Ted is a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served humbly in many church callings to include several years in the Scouting program. He has a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and His plan for us. He is a wonderful example of faith, hope, and charity. He always looked for the good in others, being strong when life was hard, and having faith and hope that everything would be okay. He was one of the first to sign up to serve others, and willing to sacrifice his time when called upon. He truly was a Disciple of Christ during his earthly life. Ted continues to live even though he is separated from his family for now. He will be their guardian angel cheering for them throughout their lives. His family takes great comfort in knowing families are forever, and that they will be reunited with him one day. Ted is survived by his wife Allyson, children Jonathon and Alyvia, Father Edward J. Passey (E.J.), siblings Eric [Heather], Eldon [Stacy], Jeff [Tara], Carolyn, Paul [Tiffany], Kent [Ashley]. Preceding in death, Mother, Pamela Passey. Our family would be honored to have friends and family attend any of the two services. A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 42530 Tall Cedars Parkway, Chantilly, VA 20152 at 11:00 am followed by Funeral Services at 12:00 pm. A special viewing will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, in Utah at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5565 South Neighbor Lane, Holladay, Utah, 84121 at 11:00 am, and a “Celebration of Life” starting at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow at the Wasatch Lawns Cemetery, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, UT 84106. We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the medical teams who cared for Ted. We also appreciate the wonderful nursing staff at the Virginia Hospital Center Outpatient Infusion Center and Johns Hopkins IPOP & HPOP, and Kiroung Kim, CRNP. The expertise and support they provided was remarkable. Ted had an impact on those who cared for him, and he was told by many how much they enjoyed having him as a patient. We are deeply touched by the outpouring of support we have received with cards of well wishes, gift cards, donations, meals and rides provided, and family members who visited and stayed with our kids.
