Earl Paul Basher

Earl Paul Basher, of Nokesville, VA, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2022, in his home after a long battle with cancer. He was 78. He is survived by his children: Andrea, Claire, Tera, Javier, and Victor. In addition to his parents, Earl is predeceased by his brother Richard, his sisters Bonnie and Janie, and his faithful dog Pepper. Earl did not live an average life. He was born on September 25, 1943, in Buffalo, New York, where he was raised by Victor and Olga Basher on the family farm with his three brothers: Richard, Randy, and Jeff and two sisters: Bonnie and Janie. He attended the University of Purdue where he earned a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. Following college, he volunteered to join the Marine Corps and quickly deployed in 1966 to Vietnam. Earl served in Vietnam from 1966-1970. Although he did not speak about his time in Vietnam often, Earl's was extremely proud to be a Marine. For his service, Earl earned a Bronze Star with V-Device, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 8 campaign stars, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Marine Unit Commendation Ribbon, the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and achieved the rank of Captain. Following his time in the Marine Corps, Earl moved to Prince William County, and ultimately settled in Nokesville, VA where he raised his children. Over the course of his life, he worked in various areas of farming, maintenance, and construction, before working for Prince William County until he retired in 2006. In retirement, Earl enjoyed road trips, classic cars, photography, and spoiling his grandchildren. Earl also supported numerous Veteran's groups and causes. He made regular charitable donations to Veteran's associations of all of the military services as well as numerous wildlife preserves and foundations. A memorial service will be held at 1400 on Sunday August 21, 2022 at Pierce Funeral Home (9609 Center St, Manassas, VA). Following the service, Earl's family will host a reception at his home in Nokesville, VA, beginning at 1600. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial donation be made in his name to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. They further request that you have a cold Modelo or a glass of Wild Turkey in his honor. Earl will be greatly missed by the many lives he touched.
