Darren Robert McCann

Darren Robert McCann, 57, of Warrenton, Virginia, passed away on August 7, 2022. He was born on July 21, 1965 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, to Robert and Ida Mae McCann. Darren grew up being an active kid. When he and his family moved to Prince William County in 1968, he joined the Ben Lomond swim team with his sister. The breaststroke was his best swim and you couldn’t get him out of the water. At age 10, his uncle Rege McCann would come from Pennsylvania to Virginia and took him to the Outer Banks yearly. This is where the love of the OBX started. He played baseball and was on both the Wrestling and Football teams in high school. He was a star athlete and always moving. Right after high school, he became a technician for Xerox and worked with them for 30+ years. He even swam for them in the corporate Olympics. During this time, he met Carolyn Jacques. They were together for 19 years and married for 17. They brought two daughters into the world and Darren made sure to always take them to the OBX. This included years of family vacations being on the 4x4 beach, seeing the wild horses, going to Jimmy’s for dinner, and crabbing. His love for sports transferred to his daughters. Evenings and weekends you would find Darren either coaching their teams, cheering them on, or hitting them pop flys in the culdesac. Darren loved music, you could always catch him at concerts or blasting the garage boombox. He was one of the biggest parrotheads. He loved cards and relaxing in a hammock. He had 2 antique cars and loved going to car shows. He would always grill for his family and friends - grilled chicken and flank steak were his staples. But he was happiest when he had a table full of blue crabs. Darren joins his parents, Robert and Ida Mae (Saylor) McCann, and his baby brother McCann. He is survived by his daughters, Melissa Bates (Ashton) and Shawna McCann, and their mother Carolyn Jacques; Granddaughter Marley Bates; and sister Noreen McCann. A viewing will be held for Darren from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Pierce Funeral Home. His funeral will take place immediately after the viewing at 4:00 PM, also at Pierce Funeral Home. In honor of Darren, please dress in your beach/casual attire or favorite sports jersey (Just no penguins).
