Cynthia L. (Gerring) Friend Age 62 Born: May 5, 1961 – Centreville, VA Died: July 3, 2023 - Kearneysville, WV Preceeded in Death: Parents: John M. & Alline B. Ramey Survived by her husband Paul E. Friend, and her brother Timothy L. Ramey (sp. Kathleen) and family. Also her four children: Daughter Ashley James (sp. Walter) children Deonti and Julian. Son John (Jake) Gerring (sp. Emily) and child Colten. Son Walter Gerring (sp. Brittany) and children Landon and Charlie. Daughter Brittany Roberts (sp. Jamie) and children Marley and Jesse. Born and raised in Centreville Virginia, Cindy graduated from Chantilly High School and then from the Fairfax School of Nursing. Her nursing career started at Fairfax Hospital and she worked in numerous facilities as her career advanced through both long term and short-term facilities. For many years she was the Director of Nursing at “Aarondale Assisted Living” in Springfield Virginia, where she advanced to the position of Executive Director for several years. She then went on as the Executive Director to open new facilities at “Ashleigh of Landsdowne” and considerable pre-work for the opening of “The Wellington”, near Gainesville, Virginia. Needing a change, she went on to become the Executive Director for “Spring Arbor of Winchester”, of which she retired from in June due to her illness. Her largest goal was to help her numerous employees, especially the nurses, to become the best that they could be through her own experience and guidance. She truly loved training and assisting them to forward their own careers. To all of her employees and co-workers, they were her extended family. While advancing her own career, she had four children of whom she was passionate in raising to become adults. She was often referred to as Supermom, as no matter how busy she was, she was always attending another sporting or school event. Along the way she met the (love of her life, using her words) in her husband Paul. Once the grandchildren started coming (now seven of them), her focus and her passionate love transferred on to the new generation. Among her many passions, she truly loved traveling and seeing new things with her husband Paul. She and Paul took more than a month one summer to travel by car throughout most of the continental U.S. For her, there was always another place she hadn’t been to and needed to check it out. Even when she received the awful diagnosis of this Incurable disease (cancer), she handled it with grace and dignity, telling everyone that she has had a great life and could not ask for any more. She loved with passion and was loved by her family and so many friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
