Christine Obal Geene

Christine Obal Geene, 87, of Gainesville, Virginia passed away on January 13 at UVA Prince William Medical Center in Manassas, VA from Cardiovascular Disease. Christine was born in Sayreville, New Jersey on January 25, 1935 to the late Walter Michael Obal and Helen Derent Obal. Christine attended St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic School before attending Sayreville High School where she graduated in 1952. Following graduation, Christine studied at New Brunswick Secretarial School. After completing a two-year course, she was employed at Rutgers’s University as Secretary to the Director of the School of Journalism. Christine married Matthew Peter Geene, Jr, in 1958 at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church, Sayreville, NJ. Matthew and Christine moved to Virginia in 1959 when Matthew’s work transferred him to National Airport. They started A-1 Glass Company in 1962, located on Centreville Road, Manassas, Va. Both Matthew and Christine were very involved in All Saints Catholic Church and the community, belonging to numerous clubs and organizations. Christine served on the board of the Northern Virginia American Cancer Society as President until Christine developed breast cancer in 1986 and was no longer able to serve. Christine was preceded in death by her husband Matthew P. Geene; her parents, Walter M and Helen D. Obal; and her brother Richard Obal. She is survived by her brothers Walter Obal and wife Kathryn, Joseph Obal and wife Joan; her sons, Garrett M. Geene Sr. and wife Patricia, Brandan M. Geene and wife Teresa; grandchildren, Garrett M. Geene, Jr. and wife Amanda, Christine M. Geene, Laura A. Tindal and husband Kennard; great grandchildren Violet and Alice Tindal. Also, step-grandchildren, Corey Walling, Shannon Burns, Amanda Lowe, Dalton Lowe; step-great grandchildren, Westley Nguyen, Courtney Halsey, Christian Halsey, Carter Halsey, Lily Demember and Delilah Demember; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 22, at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, January 23, 2023 at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Road, Manassas, VA. Following the mass, the family will hold a reception at the City Tavern. Interment will be in Sayreville, NJ at a later date. For those who desire, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Christine may be made to the American Cancer Society or All Saints Catholic Church Building Fund.
