Charles Lewis Turner

Charles Lewis Turner, age 80, of Manassas, VA, passed away on May 19, 2023, after a long serious illness. Charley is survived by Janet Turner, his best friend of 25 years and wife of 23 years. He was a devoted husband and the love of her life. Charley was born in Middleburg, VA, on October 30, 1942, to his parents George and Julia Turner. His siblings Garner, Cristella, and Berkeley have predeceased him. He is survived by a younger brother Maurice. Charley had a career as a produce manager for Safeway stores for 32 years. After retiring, he continued to work part time as a travel agent and then a baker. He was a hard-working man with an excellent work ethic. Charley was stepfather to Justin Crenshaw of Sumerduck, VA, and also to Alison Fiochetta of Centreville, VA, who predeceased him in 2021. He was a loving stepfather full of wise advice who cared for Justin and Ali as his own. Charley was a proud “poppop” to his grandson, Liam Gillies, who he was extremely fond of, and with whom he shared a very special bond. Charley was brother-in-law to Mary and Dana Simmons of Occoquan, VA, and also to Dom and Sharon Servadio of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Charley was father-in-law to Billy Gillies of Lake Ridge, VA, and also to Dan Fiochetta of Berryville, VA. Charley was a talented artist, who enjoyed painting with oils on canvas. He was a great cook. He was also a good athlete who played golf, senior softball, and bowled on several leagues. In 2002, Charley was invited to bowl in a tournament in Las Vegas with the pros. Charley also enjoyed watching sports, listening to music, and reading mystery novels. Charley loved to travel, especially by cruise ship. With his delightful, easy-going disposition, and positive outlook on life, Charley was always fun to be around. Whenever Charley was faced with a problem he would mention that “it could always be worse.” He endured many medical hardships over the past 7 years and never complained. Charley was a courageous man with a strong spirit. He was kind, loving, and big-hearted. Throughout the course of his lifetime, Charley brought joy to many people. Memories of time spent with Charley will be treasured forevermore.
