Charles Alvin Green

Charles “Charlie/Chas” Alvin Green, age 85, went to be with The Lord at his home in Manassas, Virginia on March 24, 2021 with his loving wife by his side. Charlie was born on October 28, 1935 in Woodland, MD and was the son of the late Jesse and Amelia (Schell) Green. He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen E. Richards, and brothers, Carl “Poo” Green and Henry “Pete” Green, and niece Christina Winner. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna Marie (Hersick) Green; three daughters, Cynthia and husband Raymond Schaeffer of Hiwassee, VA, Kimberly and husband Billy Singleton of Wilmington, NC and Melissa Green of Winchester, VA; three grandchildren, Amy Marie Green of Remington, VA, Raymond Schaeffer II and wife Cassie of Pulaski, VA, and Brittany (Schaeffer) and husband Nathan Noll from Pulaski, VA; seven great-grandchildren, Kimber Dutrow-Green, Trey Schaeffer, Garrett Schaeffer, Abigail Schaeffer, Mason Schaeffer, Mark Noll and Hunter Noll. He is also survived by a nephew, Raymond Richards and wife Tara and children Katie and Kaleb, Tim Winner and children Victoria, Elisha, and Joshua, sister-in-law Sharon Stakem and husband Pat, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Charlie was a quiet, loving and hardworking man. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Being with his grandchildren and great children was a highlight in his life. He attended Chapel Springs Church in Bristow, VA with his family. He will be truly missed. Charlie worked as a painter for approximately 30 years at AAA Decorating Company in Springfield, Virginia. In 1989, he and his partner began Westpark Decorating Company out of Manassas, Virginia for 16 years. Charlie and Donna enjoyed traveling and bowling with their friends on the Friday morning senior bowling league for many years until 2018 at the Bowl America on Mathis Avenue in Manassas. He liked country music, especially George Jones. For a while, he enjoyed horse racing. He loved dogs and was like a magnet to all dogs no matter where he went. He had a special little dog named Holly. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1997, and fought a long battle for 24 years without ever complaining. Attendance at the Manassas and Loudoun County Parkinson’s support group meetings with Donna helped him both give and receive encouragement to never give up. Charlie was also a 2006 cancer survivor. He was an extraordinary strong man. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at www.michaeljfox.org A memorial service for family and friends will be held at Chapel Springs Church, 11500 New Life Way in Bristow, VA (off #28) on Saturday, April 24, with Visitation from 11:00-12:00 before the Memorial Service 12:00 – 1:00. Due to Covid, social distancing and mask wearing will be necessary. A private burial with family will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery in Midland, MD.
