Cecil Shortridge

ERVINE “CECIL” SHORTRIDGE, age 89 of Millsboro, Delaware, formerly of Manassas, Virginia passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 after a brief illness, at home with family. Cecil retired from Fruit Growers Express October 1984 after 33 years of employment with the Railroad. He spent his early years of life in Buchanan County, Virginia and worked at Red Jacket Coal Mines prior to coming to Manassas, Virginia in September 1950. He enjoyed hard work, family, gardening and woodworking. He was most happy when he could be out doors. He attended Manassas Church of Christ. He was born at Skeegs, Virginia in Buchanan County, the eldest son of the Late Granville (1979) and Maudy C. Street Shortridge (1988). He was preceded in death by one grandson, Carlton Cecil Shortridge (1979)one brother, Elmer Paul (2009) and his wife Bobbie Grizzle Shortridge in 2014; one sister, Lou Margaret DeHart in 2014 and six brothers-in-law, Uliss Meeks, Tyler DeHart, Cloyd G. "Doc" Green, Pete Shirocky, Jimmy Justice and Larry Jones. He leaves the following loved ones to miss him around to talk, his loving wife of 63 years, Pauline W. Shortridge; wonderful son, C.J.and daughter-in-law, Denise Eashum Shortridge; two special grandsons and wives Daniel Franklin and Rachel Lynn Kipp Shortridge with (his Cecil's) precious great granddaughter, Hadassah Rose and Thomas Issac and Anna Bowers Shortridge, Dan and Tom's mother, Rebecca Norton; eight sisters, Martha Ellen Meeks, Ina Mae Green, Elsie Fay and Willard Cassidy, Mary Jane and Bill Crum, Alta Irene Justice, Ola Gay and Pete Kirkland, Joyce Ann Jones, Rebecca Jean and Dave Eckhoff; two brothers, Frank W. Shortridge and wife Carol and James Carl Shortridge and several nieces, nephews as well as great nieces and nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 A.M. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas where funeral services will be held 11:30 A.M. with Barry Bryson, Minister and Wes Shortridge officiating. Interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas.
