Catherine Marie Shaw

Ret. SMSgt Catherine Marie Shaw, lovingly known as Cathie or Rocky entered into eternal rest on July 13, 2023 in Hampton, Virginia. Rocky was born on June 21, 1957 in Leesburg, VA to the late James Paige and Doris Paige. She joined First Baptist Church of Sterling and gave her life to the Lord at an early age. She attended Loudoun and Fairfax county public schools. She later received her Associates Degree from St. Leo University. Rocky joined the United States Air Force August 12, 1976. She later met the love of her life, Nathan Shaw and they were married on August 16, 1980. Rocky was awarded numerous decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons. She was stationed at bases in Michigan, North Carolina, Germany, California and Virginia. She attended the USAF Senior NCO Academy (Class 96A Seminar 17), at Maxwell Air Force Base Gunter Annex in Montgomery, Alabama and considered this to be one of her many outstanding achievements. After 21 years of distinguished service, Rocky retired on August 31, 1997 at Langley AFB, VA. She later gained employment with Boeing until 2017 as a F16-F22 Simulator Scheduler. Rocky adored her husband Nathan, to whom she had been married for 43 years. Her son, Kevin, was the absolute light of her life. Rocky was heavily involved in finding her ancestors and became our family historian. She managed several peoples Ancestry accounts and she loved every minute of it. She coordinated many of our most memorable family events. Rocky loved to hug and kiss on her nieces and nephews, which she referred to as “getting her baby fix”. She and Nathan would make the trip from central to Northern Virginia at least quarterly. Rocky was an Active Bowler since she was 16 years old. She bowled in numerous leagues and was Secretary for many adult and youth bowling leagues. She was a Statistician for softball, hardball and football. Rocky was also a die-hard Commanders Fan. Rocky is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Nathan Shaw, one son, Kevin Shaw (Carolyn); her mother, Doris Paige; two God-daughters, Kimberly Paige and Tammie Fitts; five sisters, Sharon Thomas (Robin), Valerie Hogan, Lisa Paige, Tammie Crank (Terry), Rosita Christian (Toschi); one brother, Kenneth Compton; two sisters in Christ, Gail Newman-Spencer (Anthony) and Janice Hogan; five brothers in Christ, David Hogan, Leon (Jack) Hogan, Leonard (Lenny) Hogan (Diane), Jerry Hogan and Khalid (Jason Ellis) Abdul-Raheem (Natashea); one God-sister, Valencia Bush; six sisters-in-law, Hellen Shaw, Marie Luceus (Lindsay), Genevieve (Jenny) Carson, Mary Jo Davis, Robin Davis and Renee Kulbacki; four brothers-in-law, Thomas Davis, Kurt Davis (Loretta), David Davis and Jacob Russell; one great-aunt, Sarah Ten Eyck; six aunts, Mary Moore (Delaney), Louise White, Nancy Paige, Peggy Hogan, Hester Dean and Tracey Holland; one uncle, James Hogan, Jr. (Verma) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Rocky was preceded in death by both fathers, James Paige and Charles Compton; both sets of mothers and fathers in law, Nathan Sr. and Rose Shaw and Norman Sr. and Anna Davis; one niece, Ashley Thomas Emmons and six brothers-in-law.
