Catherine Cummings Rennolds

Catherine Cummings Rennolds passed away on November 24, 2022 after a long, courageous battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). She was born on April 19, 1977 to John and Judy Cummings in Stuttgart, Germany. Growing up as an Army brat, she lived all over the United States, but settled in Bristow, VA to raise her family. She graduated from Peninsula Catholic High School (‘95), Mary Baldwin College (‘99) and Florida Tech with a Master’s in Business (‘04). After graduate school, Catherine returned to Mary Baldwin to get a teaching certificate, which led to a 20 year career teaching at Catholic schools with numerous years at Saint Mary Star of the Sea in Hampton, VA and her current school, Linton Hall School in Bristow, VA. Catherine’s passion for teaching and her love for the students she taught throughout her career was unmatched. She went above and beyond to ensure her students were having fun while learning. She treated her students as if they were her own children. Catherine was a wonderful wife to her husband of 19 years, Rich, and devoted mother to her daughters, Sarah and Evelyn. Catherine and Rich were a perfect pair. Together they shared a quirky sense of humor, faith in God, and an unwavering love for their girls. Family was everything to her and she often stated she was born to be a mother, which was evident in everything she ever did with her girls. Catherine was happiest when her entire family was crowded in a small space sharing stories and playing games together. Whether you had known Catherine for ten minutes or ten years, she had a wonderful way of making everyone around her feel special. Her unique personality and quick wit captivated everyone she met. If you were lucky, she granted you a unique nickname and even personalized theme songs. It was her way of personalizing her love for her family and friends. Catherine will be remembered most for her infectious laugh, enchanting sense of humor, extreme organizational skills, her affection for her dogs, and her fierce love for family, friends, and teaching. Although the time we had with her was too short, Catherine left an everlasting imprint on the world that will never be forgotten. Catherine is survived by her husband, Richard “Rich”; her daughters, Sarah and Evelyn; her parents, John and Judy Cummings; her brother, Brian Cummings and his wife Susan; her sister Cindie Allen; her brother-in-law, Davis Rennolds; her nieces, Alexandra and Judith Cummings, and Emma Allen; her nephews Henry and Thomas Rennolds; her mother-in-law, Suzanne Dorn; and her father-in-law, Richard Rennolds. She was also deeply loved by other extended family and friends. Visitation will take place on December 4, 2022 from 4:00-6:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St, Manassas, VA 20110. We will be celebrating Catherine’s life on Monday, December 5 at 12:30 PM at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Rd, Manassas, VA 20110. The burial service will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Hwy, Manassas, VA 20109. The memorial reception will be held immediately following the burial service at Heritage Hunt Country Club at 6901 Arthur Hills Dr, Gainesville, VA 20155. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider a donation to two organizations that were special to Catherine. Sarah and Evelyn are both in the Camp Mont Shenandoah (CMS) family and Catherine loved how great camp has been for her girls. The goal of the transplant was to rebuild her bone marrow and immune system. She was lucky to have a match in her niece, Judith Cummings. While we all wanted more time with Catherine, Judith’s donation gave us three and a half more years.
