Carol McGann Jones

Carol Rose (McGann) Jones passed away Sunday September 21, 2008, at the Capital Hospice Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington, Virginia. She was born on September 15, 1950, at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia. She was the daughter of Patrick H. (Captain, USN, Ret) and Jeanette J. McGann of McLean, Virginia. Her brother, Patrick H. McGann, lives with his wife, Krystyna in Potomac, Maryland. Carol received a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in May, 1972, and an MPA from Troy State University in 1975. On December 2, 1972, she married Steven Ray Jones (Colonel, USAF, retired) of Greencastle, Indiana. Carol was a dedicated wife and mother of four children. Carol and Steve raised a son, Jeffrey Ryan, and three daughters, Lauren Marie, Melanie Dyan, and Elena Kristine. Carol served 7 years in the U.S. Air Force as a Personnel officer, receiving an honorable discharge as a Captain as she left the military to raise her children. Carol was one of the first female ROTC instructors in the U.S. Air Force. In later years Carol worked as a dental assistant, worked on the rectory staff at All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas, VA, and most recently taught Grammar and French at Seton School in Manassas, VA, where her husband has taught and coached for the past 13 years. Carol loved her Catholic faith and served the Church over the years in many capacities, including Lector and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. For several years she did volunteer work for the Missionaries of Charity in Washington, D.C. In earlier years Carol was also a member of Our Lady's Missionaries of the Eucharist. Carol was a woman of faith, with trust in our Lord, and charity towards others. Carol was a loving and caring daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her mother, Jeanette; her husband Steven; her son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Colleen Jones of Arlington, Virginia. She is also survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Lauren and Dan Zedek of San Francisco, CA, Melanie and Joe Gregory of Manassas, VA, and Elena and Andrew Cooper of Manassas, VA. Carol and Steve also have five grandchildren: Caroline Marie Zedek, Madelyn Rose (Maddie) Jones, John Patrick (Jack) Gregory, Connor Francis Jones, and Caleb Henry Zedek. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, from 6 to 9 pm (with a Rosary at 8 pm) at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA, 20110. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at 10 am at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Road, Manassas, Virginia, 20110. A reception immediately following the funeral Mass will be hosted by Seton School, 9314 Maple Street in Manassas. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
