Carl Conley Billings

Carl Conley Billings, 81, passed away on June 18, 2024, in Kingsport, Tennessee. Born on May 9, 1943, in Vallscreek, West Virginia, Carl grew up in Tazewell, Virginia where he graduated from high school. Later, he moved with his family to Manassas, Virginia, where he met the love of his life, Nancy. The two were married in 1962 and began their family in 1963. Carl began his career in the grocery business, served as a volunteer fireman, was a car salesman with Dudley Martin Chevrolet, and eventually, resumed his original calling as a grocery store clerk at Shoppers Food Warehouse, where he was well-loved by customers and colleagues alike. Outside of his professional life, Carl was an avid enthusiast of the outdoors and entertainment. He spent his earlier years riding his motorcycle around Dulles Airport and driving his Jeep off-road. Carl also enjoyed mowing grass, gardening, going to the County Fair, Kings Dominion, Dollywood, Dulles Air and Space museum, and was a fan of various television shows including "Wheel of Fortune," where he famously rooted for all contestants to win a little something, "America's Got Talent” and of course all the older television shows such as “The Andy Griffith Show”, “Gunsmoke”, to name a couple. His love for sports extended to football, Nascar races, and wrestling. Carl leaves behind a loving family, including his children Karen (Randy) Goodrick, Melissa (Shawn) Gill, and Conley (Brandy) Thurston Billings; grandchildren Rusty, TJ, Billy, Alex, Amber, River, and Bowie; step-grandchildren Roxi, Christi, and Troy; and great-grandchild Ellen. He is also survived by his siblings Mickey and Jeannie. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Esther Billings; siblings Mildred and Vernon; and his child, Robin Kruse. Services to honor Carl's life will be held on Tuesday, June 25th, at Pierce Funeral Home, Inc., located at 9609 Center St, Manassas, VA 20110. A viewing will commence at 10 AM with the service following at 11 AM. Carl will be laid to rest at Stonewall Memory Gardens, 2004 Lee Hwy, Manassas, VA 20109 at 12 noon. Pierce Funeral Home, Inc. in Manassas, Virginia is assisting the family with the arrangements. Carl's vibrant spirit and dedication to his community will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
