Bruce Eugene Bowers Sr.

Bruce Eugene Bowers, Sr. passed away in his Front Royal, Virginia home, Saturday, August 13, 2022. Bruce was born on October 28, 1934, in Trenton, New Jersey. He was the eldest son of Wallace and Edna (Johnson) Bowers. He was married to the love of his life, Ann Patricia (Pat) O’Brien Bowers for 64 years. In addition to Pat, he leaves behind his five children and their spouses: Kathleen Messier and her husband Aaron, Bruce Jr. and his wife Wilma, Kevin and his wife Rosalyn, Jeffrey and his wife Leili, and Jennifer Lussier and her husband, Frank. He was incredibly loved by his 18 grandchildren: Matthew Messier (Lisa), Annemarie Sines (Daniel), Elizabeth (Marcus) Barber, Kathryn Perry (Chris), John Messier (Michelle), Joseph Messier (Ashley), Veronica Johnson (Andy), Mark Messier, Madalyn Messier, Sade Bowers, Mary Bowers, Patrick Bowers (Chelsea), Bridget Price (Derring), Kelsey Bowers, Shaylin Bowers, Ariana Bowers, Cullin Bowers, and Roya Bowers. His life is also celebrated by his 30 great grandchildren and four brothers: Ed Bowers (MaryAnn), Bob Bowers (Stephanie), Barry Bowers (Carol) and Craig Bowers (Carol)….and his many beloved cousins in New Jersey, Delaware and beyond. Bruce is remembered as a hard-working man with a strong love of his family, his country, and his Christian faith. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served his country with pride. After the Marines, he was recruited to a national security position working with the Central Intelligence Agency. After retiring from the CIA, Bruce returned to a craft that he loved, carpentry, and worked with his eldest son, Bruce Jr. providing a steady hand as he started Bowers Design Build. Bruce worked in carpentry until his retirement, moving to the coast of North Carolina where he lived until his recent return to Virginia and a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains that he loved. Bruce always found fellowship in the choral groups at the United Methodist Churches where he lived and extended his faith by volunteering in his community. Bruce always loved staying busy whether it was working in his pristine yard or helping his family and friends. While his physical presence will be missed, his family is comforted by the fact that he is now at peace and most likely, picking up a hammer and staying busy. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bruce E. Bowers, Sr. Memorial Fund at St. Jude’s Hospital for Children.
