Betty Lois Mohler

Our precious mother, Betty Lois Bolton Chihocky Mohler, was taken into the arms of her loving Savior on November 6, 2023. Born on March 11, 1932, our mother lived every moment of life for 91 years. Many are not given the blessing of a long life, so we write this tribute with the full acknowledgement that she gave each of her children (Gil, Missy, and Jan), her daughter-in-law (Janet), her grandchildren (Adrienne, Audrey, Sarah, and Andrew), and her great-grandchildren (Addison, Lexi, Mason, Remy, and Julia) the joy and example of living a life centered on her faithfulness to her Lord, her family, her country, her friends, and everyone from Tennessee to Virginia who were blessed to know our mom. Our mom was blessed to be one of 12 children born to Lester and Stella Bolton, and their home was chock full of faith, love, hard work, laughter, country cooking, and most importantly, gospel singing. She is survived by one sibling, LW Bolton. For as long as we can remember, our mom played the piano while her brothers would sing in perfect harmony, both in tune and in their love of being together. Mom never had a piano lesson, so she played by what we call – playing by ear. She heard the notes in her head and the chords written on the tablet of her heart. Her piano-playing blessed those in our homes, churches, neighborhoods, community centers, and just about anywhere she could find a piano. Our mother left us the legacies of being faithful to the Lord, honoring our country by being nothing less than a strong conservative, working hard at whatever vocation we pursued, never gravitating to the wrong crowds, and forgiving each other because no matter what, she would say, “Family needs each other.” Thank you for taking a few moments to read this tribute. To know Betty was to know someone who didn’t know a stranger. She counted it her responsibility to pen the words, “In God We Trust”, on the back of every envelope she sent through the mail. She gave gospel tracts to friends and strangers – never ashamed to tell others about Christ and ask them directly, “Do you know if you were to die tonight where you will spend eternity?” This day and every day going forward we will find ways to honor our mother, both for the life she led and the legacy she gifted us. Mom – it has been our greatest blessing to be your children. Thank you!
