Annette Lina Nowak

On Thursday August 26, 2021, Annette Steffen Nowak, loving mother of 4, grandmother of 11 and great grandmother of 2 passed away from cancer at the age of 87. Annette was born on February 12, 1934, in Gerardmer, France to Auguste and Emma Quirin. She came to the United States in 1957 and settled in Roslyn, New York. Annette worked for the Roslyn Public Schools for twenty years and was loved by the staff, administration, and students. Annette raised her four children Jacques, Jean “Johno”, Michele and Dominique. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family, eating, drinking, and filling the house with conversation and laughter. Especially when that conversation turned to her and her wooden spoon. She loved unconditionally, was selfless, and exuberated nothing but strength through her last breath. Annette was an animal lover who enjoyed walks through her neighborhood with her dogs. She was an avid reader and knitter who relished a good glass of red wine in the evenings. Whether she was watching her kids or grandkids play sports, or attending country concerts with friends and family, Annette was a great fan and cheerleader who loved to have a good time. Her infectious smile and quick wit will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.Annette was preceded in death by her husband Bruno Nowak and daughter Michele Conley. She is survived by her two sons Jacques Steffen (wife Ellen), and Jean “Johno” Steffen, and her daughter Dominique Schwab (husband Joe). Her eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren Nicole Steffen, Denver Conley, Brooke Heitmeier (husband Dylan), Brendan Riley Conley, Dana Steffen, Forrest Conley, Melanie Steffen, Jake Steffen, Grace Schwab, Joey Schwab, Mateo Muniz, Savannah Heitmeier and Hank Heitmeier look forward to honoring her memory. Annette also leaves behind her sister Danielle Betsch (husband Jean Pierre), sisters in law Liliane Steffen, and Monique Thierse, and many nieces and nephews in France and the US. Annette’s grandson Brendan Riley is running the New York City Marathon this fall in honor of both his late mother Michele Conley and Annette.
