Robert "Bob" Edward Hambleton

Robert Edward Hambleton, 66, of Bristow, VA, died peacefully in his home on November 17, 2023, surrounded by his family. Bob is survived by his wife of 43 years, Amy, and their 17 children: Michael (Heather), David (Mary), Stephen (Angela), Tom (Mary), Joe (Corinne), Johnny (Stephanie), Rob (Theresa), Karen Salmon (Tommy), Annie O’Brien (Ben), Marie, Andrew, Ed, Kathleen, James, Caroline Fallon (Paul), Sarah, and Phillip, as well as 53 grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Joe, Phillip, and Steve; sisters Annie, Lisa, and Amy Sue; and a large extended family. Bob was born on September 5, 1957, in Redwood City, CA, son of the late Roger and Barbara Hambleton. He attended Christendom College in Front Royal, VA, from 1977-1979 and was a member of the first class of students to be educated at that college. After his marriage to Amy (née Francis), Bob settled in Northern Virginia to raise a family. He worked for 84 Lumber, Domino’s Pizza, and delivered newspapers before successfully starting his own business, Hambleton Lawn & Landscape, which several of his children continue to run today. Bob was a faithful Catholic and throughout his life attended St. Agnes in Arlington, St. John in McLean, St. James in Falls Church, and Holy Trinity in Gainesville. Bob also served as a lector and actively contributed to the life of his parish. Bob and Amy homeschooled all 17 of their children, teaching them to grow in faith, strong work ethic, and generosity. Bob is remembered for his endless generosity and genuine self-sacrifice. All know of his contagious laugh and great sense of humor. He was humble and merciful, attentive and deliberate, entrepreneurial and hardworking. He dedicated his life to providing for his family and, at the end especially, offered his family a final lesson in steadfast love and suffering. He lived his last months in prayerful surrender to God through his great pain. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed by the many who loved him. The visitation will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Gainesville, VA, on Sunday, November 26 from 1:00-4:00 pm and 6:30-8:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will also be at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, on Monday, November 27 at 10:30 am with a reception immediately following at Sweeney Barn (9310 Discovery Blvd, Manassas, VA 20109). Interment will take place on Tuesday, November 28 at 2:00 pm at Fairfax Memorial Park (4401 Burke Station Rd Fairfax, VA 22030). All are invited.
