Renee Marie Johnson

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Renee Marie Johnson, who left this world on February 7, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She was 52 years old. Renee was born on October 9, 1972, in San Jose, CA, where she grew up and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from San Jose State University. Renee began her career at KLA Instruments where she met her husband, Eric. They married in August 2001. Renee enjoyed scuba diving in Monterey, as well as hiking, exploring, and camping in national parks in California and Utah. In 2003, Renee and Eric relocated to Haymarket, Virginia. She grew to love the warm east coast summers and cherished time spent at their family cabin in Warrenton. Renee’s happiest moments were those she spent with her children, Christopher (born 2006) and Anna (born 2007). A woman of deep faith, Renee had a strong passion for helping others and was particularly devoted to her role as the Children’s Ministry Director at Gainesville United Methodist Church. Renee’s work with children extended beyond her church as she proudly served as a long-time leader of her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop, becoming a second mom to the girls and having a lasting impact on their lives. She loved supporting them in all they did, offering encouragement, love, and guidance as they worked towards their goals. Renee had a strong sense of creativity and style and loved working on home projects. She did everything from painting and tiling floors to building wooden shelves and worked hard to make their home a beautiful and inviting space. Above all, her favorite moments were those spent talking and sharing stories with Eric and their children. Renee’s presence in the lives of family, friends, and all who knew her will be greatly missed. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed, heard, and loved. Her compassion, integrity, and joy for life were infectious, leaving a lasting impression on all she encountered. Renee is survived by her devoted husband, Eric, her children Christopher and Anna, her parents Steve and Carol Foss, and her sister Erica Nicoli. A celebration of Renee’s life will be held at Gainesville United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Flowers can be sent to Gainesville United Methodist Church, or donations can be made to the Adler Center for Caring or the American Cancer Society.
