Mary Jane Hom

Mary Jane Hom, 81, of Gainesville, VA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2015 after more than a year of battling lung cancer. Mary Jane is survived by her three children, daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Tom Bailey of Denville, NJ; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Stewart Ocheltree, Jr. of Manassas, VA; and son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Ellen Hom, of South Riding, VA. She will also be greatly missed by her seven grandchildren, Lauren and Tori Berard; Chris, Matt, and Daniel Ocheltree; and William and Mary Kate Hom; and by sister, Juanita Sing of Oakland, CA; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and David Foy of Chantilly, VA; brother and sister-in-law Henry and Gloria Louie, of Potomac, MD; sister and brother-in-law, Cherry and Ed Gong, of Elk Grove, CA; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jane Louie, of Wilmington, DE; brother and sister-in-law, James and Betty Louie, of Elk Grove, CA; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Janet Louie, of Boston, MA; sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Eric Khu, of Sydney, Australia; and sister-in-law, Helen Wong of Philadelphia, PA. She is preceded in death by her husband Al Hom, sister Clare Combs and brother Bill Louie. Mary Jane, born in April 1933, grew up working in the family laundry in Easton, MD and spent a year in Guangzhou, China learning Chinese language and customs. After her marriage to Al in October 1957, they relocated to Hillsborough, NJ, where she worked as a homemaker and raised her three children. Mary Jane and Al spent 17 years in Melbourne, FL following Al's work transfer to the area in 1990. In 2007, Mary Jane and Al moved to Gainesville, VA to be closer to their family. Mary Jane treasured time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and was an avid bridge player. She enjoyed the many friendships she developed over the years - the ladies in Hillsborough and Melbourne, and recently the special people in Heritage Hunt. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Pierce Funeral Home, Manassas, VA. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Pierce Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Allen officiating, immediately followed by internment at Stonewall Memory Gardens.
