John Michael Stevulak Jr

We are heartbroken to share that our beloved brother, uncle, cousin and friend, John Stevulak, unexpectedly was called home by God on Thursday, January 2, 2025 following complications from a back surgery at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. Our entire family, to include John’s friends, church congregation and neighbors lost a dear man, good friend and faithful servant. His lap-dog, Max, who is sweet, smart and affectionate, lost his favorite human and is struggling to understand why he is not with him. John Michael Stevulak, Jr. was born April 4, 1954 in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, John moved to Washington, DC and enjoyed a 31-year career working for the United Mine Workers of America. After his retirement, John considered it a privilege to be asked to serve and support the United Mine Workers Training and Education Fund which is an extraordinary program which benefits so many children of the families of mine workers. This program enabled their children to attend college. John also attended and volunteered at Manassas Church of Christ for 14 plus years, helping with Preschool and other areas of service. As “Mr. John”, he enjoyed assisting and serving the little preschool ones who always brought a smile to his face. John was the epitome of a servant -- whether it was for his family, friends or neighbors, he would do anything for anyone to help them. He especially had a tender spot in his heart for the group of ladies who also volunteered. He checked in on them often and they knew they could call upon him at any time. One of John’s greatest joys was loving and caring for animals – from his numerous dogs over the years, his family’s horse and pet sitting for friend's dogs, cats and birds when someone needed help. John is survived by his sisters, Patricia Presock (Bernard “Bernie” Presock) of Virginia, Stevie Prettyman (William “Bill” Prettyman) of Florida, Catherine “Cathy” Custis (William “Bill” Custis) of Maryland and Janet Virgili of Pennsylvania, his cousins, and countless nieces and nephews all of who loved their uncle John. John was one of the unsung heroes of our lives and we will miss him dearly. While we know that John is in Heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, he will forever be a treasured family member and friend to us all and has left an indelible mark on our lives. A celebration of John’s life will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 with family visitation at 10:00 am and a Christian service at 11:00 am at Manassas Church of Christ located at 8110 Signal Hill Road, Manassas, Virginia, 20111 Weather permitting another celebration of life service and burial will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel at Greene County Memorial Cemetery located at 1003 Jefferson Road Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, 15370.
