Jennifer Jones Simpson

Jennifer "Jenny" Jones Simpson, 71, of Mechanicsville, VA, passed away on September 26, 2023. She was born on February 27, 1952, in Morehead, KY, to the late Delbert Caudill and Nola Omohundro. Jenny was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jeff Simpson of 26 years, along with her step-father William Omohundro (aka/Pops) She is survived by her loving daughter, Missy Hertless (Billy), and step-children, Sean Simpson (Casey) and Jesse Runyon. Jenny was a cherished sister to Sherry McCarthy (Dan) and Billy Omohundro (Kirsten). She was adored by her eight grandchildren: Jayme Mathews, Hadley Simpson, Harper Simpson, C.J. Lowe (Symantha), Chloie Runyon, Cailah Runyon, Colton Runyon, and Cassie Suflita and two great-grandchildren: Evelynn Lowe and Genevieve Lowe along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jenny retired in 2008 from Giant Food after 36 years of dedicated service. She began her career as a cashier and worked her way up to becoming a Grocery Manager. Jenny also served in the cash office during her tenure. Jenny was a loving Mom, Nanny, Sister, and Friend. Everyone who knew her knew the love of Jesus. Jenny truly embodied love, kindness, selflessness, strength, faith, and resilience and lived her life to the fullest. In 2017, Jenny made the amazing decision to have a lung transplant after struggling with COPD for so many years. She was forever thankful to the donor and their family. With the transplant hospital stay and many doctor visits that followed, she was always noted as the best and friendliest patient. During her free time, Jenny enjoyed spending time with her family, having lunch with friends, watching game shows, attending church at Cool Spring Baptist Church, and finding ways to serve others. Her most recent passion was Operation Christmas Child. Her dining room table was full of items she was working on to be packed in shoeboxes and sent around the world to children in need. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 3rd, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a service at 12:30 p.m. at Pierce Funeral Home, located at 9609 Center St., Manassas, VA. The interment will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens. Following this, we will gather with family and friends at Old Towne Sports Pub, located at 8971 Center St., Manassas, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jenny's memory to Operation Christmas Child, Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-9956.
