Elaine Bonds

Remembering Elaine Elaine Olender Johnson - Bonds, age 69, of Manassas, Virginia,formerly of Dunn Loring, Virginia, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Prince William Hospital, Manassas, Virginia. Elaine was born on March 9, 1941 in Washington DC, the daughter of the late Thomas E. Johnson and Vietta Grace Smith from Dunn Loring, VA. Elaine attended Louise Archer Elementary in Vienna and Luther Jackson High School in Merrifield, VA and later graduated in 1959 from Collier High School, a private catholic boarding school in Wickatunk, NJ. Elaine's nickname was JOE, her initials spelled backwards. She later attended Washington Technical Institute in Washington DC majoring in Mass communications. She retired from the Department of Transportation where she worked as a Traffic Controller. Elaine was previously on staff at George Mason University and retired as a Sr. Librarian from Washington Technical Institute. In her leisure she enjoyed traveling, gardening, singing, eating crabs, casinos, Wheel of Fortune, Tyler Perry movies and bragging about her grandchildren and great grand children. She was an avid Washington Redskin and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Elaine always enjoyed helping others and throughout her life took under her wing and mentored numerous young people. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas E. Johnson; mother Vietta Grace Smith Johnson: beloved brothers Edward "June", Lorenzo "Buster", Larry "Cat" and Garry "Pokey" Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memory husband Edward R. Bonds, Eight children, Sha'Ron (Tommy) Downing, LiCano (Lisa) Bonds, ShaRee (George) Johnson, Carlos Bonds, Lorenzo Bonds, Lisa (John) Carter, Marisa Bonds and Marcus Bonds. Three Step children, Denise (Thomas E.) Allen, Don (Madeline) Bonds and Carol Ann (Stuart) Walker. Twenty eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nine step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Aunt and Smith family Matriarch's Pearl Oliver and Naomi Smith and Johnson Patriarch Wilbert Harris. Two sisters Barbara (James) A. Owens, Fascination (Donald) Lyonett Smith and three brothers Harold "Bobby", Bruce and Carroll Johnson. Friend and confidant Cynthia Sharp. And a host of many family and friends. Funeral services are being held at Peace Baptist Church 8221 Wolftrap Rd Vienna, VA 22182 on Friday August 6, 2010 (Wake 9:00 -11:00 A.M & funeral from 11:00-12:15 P.M) Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Memorial Park, Annandale, Virginia.
